I am indebted within my art journey to the NSW-based art collective, The Kandos School of Cultural Adaptation (KSCA).

In late 2016, when my second child was 4 months old, and Twitter was one of my source’s of connection in the world, with two children under 2, I came across an event bridging art, science and the environment, headlined by Bruce Pascoe, who wasn’t as widely know then as he is now. Within 24 hours, I had jumped in the car with my baby to drive 10 hours solo to a town called Kandos, to take part in Futurelands2, a two day public event hosted by KSCA. (This is Despina 3rd from the left in the photo above.. she’s still being dragged to art events all over the country)

I am not embarrassed to say that I became a groupie of KSCA, and within a couple of years, was invited into the fold.

KSCA pursues the notion - proposed by founding member, Ian Milliss, with references to Australian philosopher, Donald Brook - that art is any activity which brings about cultural change. Read more here.

This notion and the interdisciplinary collaborations it supports provided a frame in which to bridge my own cross disciplinary backgrounds in finance/ economics, art and environmental activism. Interruptions of single motherhood, pandemics, floods, landslides and housing crises have slowed my participation whilst increasing my learnings on adaptive change.
